Skincare

Hi!

I want to share my experience and thoughts on these two similar products:
Bioderma Sebium Pore Refiner
and
La Roche-Posay Effaclar M Mattifying Moisturiser.

They are both suited for combination/oily skin and are supposed to help with excess sebum production and large pores.

So I'll start with the La Roche Posay Mattifying Moisturiser. This product is in the 'Effaclar' range of products from La Roche-Posay which are specially formulated to help oily skin with imperfections.

I have recently started to use it more regularly because I felt my skin was shinier than usual. Plus I felt I needed to change my usual daily moisturiser as my skin seems to have gotten used to it and it wasn't so effective anymore.

What does it claim to do?

  • Helps neutralize shine for lastingly matte, clear and balanced skin
  • Light, oil-free formula; leaves skin feeling fresh
  • Helps clear sebum-clogged pores at the source
  • Non-comedogenic
my opinion

I do think this is a nice moisturizer but it didn't quite meet my expectations in terms of regulating the shine which is the main purpose I got it for. That's why I reached for Bioderma but I'll talk about that in a minute. I use sunscreen every day under my foundation and as light as mine is, it does add a little glowiness to my already prone to shine skin. So I wasn't thrilled to notice that after a couple of hours my T-zone is not as mattified as I hoped when applying the product in the morning.

Now for the positive features: it leaves a very nice, velvety finish on the skin and it's the perfect base for foundation. I love it! I don't think I'll ever want a primer with this moisturiser and that's a big plus for me because it not only combines two actions in one but it's one step and one product less to apply in the morning. My foundation looks definitely nicer on top of it and I believe it stays for longer.
I like the packaging too because of the handy pump.

So how did I cope with my shiny T-zone? Here comes the Bioderma Sebium Pore Refiner which main claim is to minimize dilated pores but works wonder with mattifying my skin.

What does it claim to do?

improves the appearance of the skin: its texture is more refined, more regular and clearer, and the pores are closed and less visible.
maintains the quality of the sebum, thus preventing obstruction of the pores

refines the skin texture and the antioxidant agents preserve its natural radiance

my opinion

I apply it to my T-zone and it leaves my skin silky like La Roche but it keeps it mat as well! I'm oil-free till the mid of the day (if applied in the morning), then I need to touch up with powder but that's ok. And I have to say it refines the pores too. It has a light and clean fragrance. To sum up I really like it and recommend it because it does what it is supposed to do.

In conclusion I'd say Bioderma does a better job with reducing the sebum and mattifying the skin than La Roche-Posay. However I like the latter for different reasons so I combined the two products in my daily routine to get a moisturised, mattifyed, silky skin ready for foundation.

I hope you're enjoying the sunny autumn days!

P.S  Here are two more pictures that don't quite go with the autumn themed post above but I wanted to share them :)

I've been curious to try more of the Bioderma products, rather than just the makeup remover! Nice review, thanks xx
